HSC Technology Guide
Log in to Computer:
- User name: HSCStudent
- Password: student
- Log on to: WESTERN
Lights:
- If the green light is in the ON position, push the manual control up.
- If the green light is in the OFF position, push the button above it to the ON position.
- If the green light is in the OFF position and you push the button to the ON position but the lights DO NOT come on, push the manual control up to the ON position.
Touch panel screen on desk:
- Always “on” – no power switch
- If screen is blank, simply touch the screen to bring the panel out of the power save mode
Powering On/Down the Technology:
Powering Up:
- Touch “Start Here” button in the middle portion of the touch panel on the desk
- This will bring the screen down, power on the projector and put the lights into the audio/video mode
- It takes about 45 seconds for the projector to power up and during boot up, the touch panel will not function (will give warning to wait until the projector powers up.
Powering down:
- The lower right corner of the touch panel has a "System Off" button.
- Pressing the "System Off" button will take you to a screen that will ask if you are sure you want to shut down.
- Press "Yes" if you want to power down
- It will raise the screen
- Turn off the projector
- Turn on any lights that may be dimmed or off
Selecting a source to show on the screen:
Computer:
- Turn on manually (button in middle of tower)
- Select PC on the touch panel
Document Camera:
- Select Doc Cam icon on touch panel
- Turn on doc-cam:
- Red light - OFF
- Blue light - ON
- One needs to press for a moment for it to turn on/off
- There is a round button in the middle (on the doc cam base) with 5 options to choose from
- Choose the bottom icon that looks like the doc cam
- Turn the light on the lamp (arm) portion
- The on/off switch is located to the left of the lens
- Move switch to the left to turn on
- Move switch to the right to turn off
- Place document on desktop
- Document should appear on the screen
- To zoom
- Rotate the gray knob located on the left side of the arm
- When done:
- Turn off the light switch on the arm
- Turn off the doc cam switch (blue to red)
- Turn off the touch screen
- Turn off the computer
Laptop Connection:
- Follow the instructions above to power up the technology
- Power on your laptop computer
- Select the laptop icon (Laptop HDMI) located on the touch panel
- Your laptop should now be seen on the big screen. If it is not, try the following:
- Hold down the Fn key on your keyboard and press F5 or F8. This will tell your laptop to look for an external monitor connection. The key that triggers this is different from computer to computer. Look for blue lettering on the "F" key that says CRT/LCD or has a tiny picture of a monitor.
- Your laptop should now be seen on the big screen. If it is not, try the following:
Audio:
- The touch panel controls audio
- When a source is selected, not only does the video show up on the screen, but the audio from that source is also sent to the room speakers.
- If you want to play audio from a CD or DVD, you must power up the system and have the source selected in order for your audio to be heard.
- The volume is controlled by the knob in the bottom-middle of the touch panel. A mut button can be found on the right side of the touch panel.

Phone List:
Note: The “7” before the phone numbers is needed for all phone calls made from the VOIP phones located in the 2nd floor classrooms. Call going directly to UWL departments only need the last four digits.
If calling a local number, 608 needs to be included
Emergencies and Threatening Situations:
911 - Life threatening emergency
9999 - Other emergencies
9000 - Request for assistance or dispatch (UWL)
(UW-L University Police provide the security contract for the HSC)
Custodial:
Call: 608-386-2518
Custodial staff should be the first line of contact and they will redirect the message to appropriate department.
Includes: water overflowing, spill on the floor, broken window, sidewalk not being salted in a timely manner etc.
